1. Framework

The Luís Andrade Barreira Scholarship ("Scholarship") is a non-institutional, non-profit initiative established in partnership with i3S - Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (University of Porto). This website acts exclusively as a donation facilitation platform.

2. Nature of Donations and Non-Refund Policy

By making a donation through this platform, the user acknowledges and accepts that the contribution is a voluntary act of scientific patronage. All successfully processed donations are final and non-refundable. Once transferred, funds are held in fiduciary custody (escrow) by i3S, allocated exclusively to the funding of oncology research.

3. Recurring Payments (SEPA/Credit Card Mandate)

By selecting the monthly donation option, the user issues a valid mandate authorizing the automatic and recurring collection of the stipulated amount, through the payment processing entity (Easypay). The donor has the right to cancel this subscription at any time, using the magic link provided in the confirmation email or by contacting the administration via the email provided in the Privacy Policy. Cancellation prevents future charges but does not grant the right to a refund of previous monthly payments.

4. Limitation of Liability

The model of this Scholarship is based on funding scientific merit. The selection, execution, and results of the research projects are the exclusive competence and responsibility of the i3S scientific committee. The user expressly acknowledges that their donation funds the means (the research effort), with no guarantee, promise, or contractual obligation of obtaining a specific clinical or scientific result (such as the discovery of a new therapy). The Scholarship management, i3S, and the Andrade Barreira family decline any civil or financial liability if the funded research does not achieve its original hypotheses.

5. Donation Receipts and AML Compliance (Law 83/2017)

The bolsaLAB.org website is not a legal entity, but rather a fundraising vehicle. Donation receipts, with legal and tax validity for deduction purposes under the Portuguese Scientific Patronage Statute, are issued exclusively by the financial and administrative services of i3S. To issue the receipt, it is mandatory to provide the Tax Identification Number (NIF) and address at the time of donation.

Additionally, in strict compliance with Law No. 83/2017 (Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing), for donations equal to or greater than €2,500 (in a single donation or the annualized total of monthly donations), providing the full NIF and address becomes mandatory. The Scholarship and i3S reserve the right to refuse or return funds whose origin does not comply with the legal identification requirements.

6. Privacy and Data Protection

The collection and processing of personal data is strictly governed by our Privacy Policy.

7. Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions are governed by Portuguese law. Any dispute arising from the use of this website or the processing of donations will be submitted to the competent courts of the district of Porto, Portugal.
